- Dogs must have current rabies and license tags clipped to their collars at all times. All dogs must have up-to-date vaccinations prior to entering the dog park.
- Owners must clean up any dog droppings made by their pets. Bag all droppings before depositing them in the provided receptacles.
- Dog owners must remain in the park and keep their dog in view at all times. No dog may be unattended.
- Aggressive dogs are not allowed in the park. Any dogs showing signs of aggression should be removed from the premise.
- Unleash your dog before entering the park. Dogs who are leashed may feel threatened by free roaming dogs.
- Do not bring food or treats inside the park. Food can prompt aggressive behavior between dogs. Do not attempt to feed other people’s dogs.
- Puppies under four months of age should not enter the park. Puppies under four months of age have not received all of their vaccinations.
- No infants or small children are permitted in the dog park. Small children may be injured by overzealous dogs. Dogs may also feel the urge to protect children they know. This can result in aggressive behavior.
- Female dogs in heat are not permitted in the dog pars.
- Exercise caution when using toys inside the dog park. Dogs may claim toys that do not belong to them, which may lead to aggressive behavior. Small toys may be a choking hazard to some dogs, especially large dogs.
- Owners must fill in any holes made by their pets.
The City of Two Harbors requires dog owners who reside within the City limits to purchase an annual dog tag. Lake County does not have this ordinance that I know of, so if rural dog owners want to use the dog park are we still required to purchase a license? $5 each for my 2 dogs isn’t a big expense to be able to use the park since I reside outside the City limits, but I thought I would pose the question anyway. Also, I volunteer at the animal shelter and we might have people coming in, asking this same question, so it’d be nice to have the answer for them. Thanks.
If you live in an unincorporated area or your municipality has no process to license dogs you would be exempt from the license requirement. Your dogs would still be required to display their current rabies vaccination tags however. I’d also recommend that you have a “dog tag” made, displaying your dog’s name, address and phone number to help your dog get home should your dog ever get lost! Speak to your veterinarian about getting your dog microchipped as well if you haven’t already. Thank you for the comment and we hope to see you at Two Harbors Community Dog Park!
